The survey, conducted under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), evaluated 131 cities based on their air quality improvement measures, highlighting the remarkable achievements of Surat, Firozabad, and Rae Bareli.
Surat Secures Top Spot in Category I
Surat, a city renowned for its cleanliness initiatives, has once again demonstrated its dedication to environmental sustainability by securing the first position in Category I (cities with a population of over 10 lakhs). The city’s proactive approach, encompassing advanced pollution control technologies, extensive plantation drives, and stringent vehicular emission regulations, has played a pivotal role in its success.
Firozabad and Rae Bareli Excel in their Categories
Rae Bareli and Firozabad have emerged as frontrunners in their respective categories, showcasing their commitment to improving air quality. Firozabad topped Category II (cities with a population between 3 and 10 lakhs), while Rae Bareli secured the first position in Category III (cities with a population below 3 lakhs). Their achievements underscore the potential for significant progress even in smaller cities through dedicated efforts and innovative solutions.
Uttar Pradesh Cities Shine
The success of cities like Firozabad and Rae Bareli in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan 2024 is a testament to the concerted efforts undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh government to combat air pollution. As highlighted by Urban Development Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat, this achievement reflects the state’s commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment for its citizens.

This event will serve as a platform to recognize and celebrate the achievements of cities like Surat, Firozabad, and Rae Bareli, inspiring others to follow suit in their pursuit of clean air.
Methodology Adopted
Assessment is done every year and cities are ranked based on the assessment of performance for the
period (financial year i.e, 1 st April to 31st March) of the preceding financial year. Specific weightage
has been assigned for taking control measures in 08 identified sectors shown in the Table 1 below
