What is the International Solar Alliance (ISA)?
Formation and Purpose: The ISA was launched jointly by India and France in 2015 during the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP21). The ISA aims to bring together countries located between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn to collaborate on increasing the use of solar energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Headquarters: The ISA’s headquarters situated at the National Institute of Solar Energy in Gurugram, Haryana, India.
India’s Role: India has played a crucial role in the establishment and growth of the ISA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a solar-powered future was instrumental in the alliance’s formation. India has also provided financial and technical support to help the ISA achieve its objectives.
Key Milestones
100th Member: The Republic of Paraguay recently became the 100th full member of the ISA, further expanding the alliance’s global reach.
Nepal’s Focus: Nepal’s membership in the ISA aligns with its goal of developing 30,000 MW of electricity by 2035, with a focus on combining hydropower and solar power.
Benefits of ISA Membership for Nepal
